O que são os Créditos LIFE de Biodiversidade?
Os Créditos LIFE de Biodiversidade são uma unidade positiva em biodiversidade, medida e verificada por meio de evidências, durável e adicional em relação a não existência do projeto. Os créditos são gerados por meio da metodologia Negócios e Biodiversidade desenvolvida pelo Instituto LIFE, uma criteriosa avaliação sobre impactos ambientais negativos e positivos provenientes dos negócios.
Relacionando os impactos negativos provenientes dos processos empresariais e os impactos positivos provenientes de ações e projetos desenvolvidos em prol da conservação da biodiversidade, realiza-se a compensação dos impactos e o saldo positivo gerado deste balanço são os Créditos LIFE de Biodiversidade. Dentre da análise das ações positivas, critérios como o tamanho da área natural conservada, sua localização - ecorregião, importância biológica, fragilidade e importância para a manutenção de serviços ecossistêmicos, além da qualidade da intervenção realizada na área, são avaliadas para gerar a pontuação, que é a medida de valor para realização do balanço.
Esta avaliação é feita por uma auditoria independente de terceira parte, que contabiliza e converte o saldo deste cálculo em valor de créditos para serem negociados no mercado.
