Caring for Nature Begins with Information

20 Years of History

SPVS Natural Reserves

The book “SPVS Natural Reserves: 20 Years of History” tells about SPVS’s pioneering work in the restoration and conservation of the Atlantic Forest. The work presents information about the process of establishing the Natural Reserves, the techniques used and improved, the relationships and partnerships built, the educational actions for nature conservation, as well as the results in the social and economic development of local residents.

Together, the Natural Reserves – das Águas, Papagaio-de-cara-roxa, and Guaricica, located in Antonina and Guaraqueçaba, northern coast of Paraná – preserve about 19,000 hectares of Atlantic Forest.

Parks, Rewilding, and Local Development

Nature Production

The book “Nature Production: Parks, Rewilding, and Local Development” presents the principles and tools of biological and social sciences, combined with the practical experience of biologist IgnĂĄcio JimĂ©nez PĂ©rez, in the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.

From a prospecting work for nature conservation actions, in partnership with the Conservation Land Trust (which works on preservation projects in Argentina and Chile), SPVS became aware of the concept of Nature Production in 2015. It is from this intense work of approximation that in 2018 it launched the Grande Reserva Mata Atlñntica initiative, the first Brazilian case applying the methodology. And thus, in 2019, it launched the translation of the work to inspire other common initiatives – as has already happened with the Alto Pantanal.
